Our 2012 Taylor Coach 17′ travel trailer Nellie at Jones Pond boat launch in the Adirondacks in New York State August 2015.

2012 Taylor Coach 17’ travel trailer with 100 square feet of interior space and ample windows. Nellie weighs 2300lbs dry and about 2900lbs loaded and is equipped with a dual axle for stability and trailer brakes. Nellie was custom built for us with a unique layout: we relocated a closet to make a huge 7’ long kitchen with an extra wide window over the counter. Nellie was also engineered to double as a toy hauler for a small motorcycle or scooter: the subfloor is thicker at 3/4” while the rear door is extra wide with a larger window. Nellie comes equipped with both side and rear awnings.

Nellie’s layout includes a marine style bathroom with a shower/toilet combined area. The 5.3 cubic foot fridge is about half size for good energy efficiency. The kitchen includes a double sink, small microwave oven and double burner cooktop. The layout is completely flexible with the full-size queen bed converting to a table for up to 6 people while a secondary dinette for 2 converts to either a single bed or a sofa.

Nellie is well-equipped with roof mounted solar panels plus auxillary panels, 1500 Watt pure sine house inverter and 225 amp hours Trojan golf cart battery bank. Nellie has 2 propane tanks to power the cooktop, ducted furnace and 6 gallon hot water heater. Our tank sizes are: 16 gallons for fresh water, 18 gallons grey water and 9 gallons black. Nellie has roof mount batwing antenna for the house stereo system and 22” wall mounted TV. We also installed a Wilson cell booster to increase our cellular range.

Eddie
Our 2011 Honda Odyssey EX minivan is Eddie our trusty tow vehicle. Eddie has sufficient power to tow even up long, steep inclines and ample interior storage space for everything needed for a great camping trip! Eddie weighs 4500lbs dry, about 5300lbs loaded and has a class 3 hitch receiver and transmission cooler.

My awesome new tow vehicle Eddie!

Though Eddie is front wheel drive, the EAZ weight distribution hitch helps spread the tow weight to the front wheels for better traction. The anti-sway bar provides further stability in towing while the Tekonsha Prodigy brake controller provides precise and adjustable control of the trailer brakes.

Weight distribution hitch with anti-sway bar. A super stable hitch system.

Combined and fully loaded we fall just within the GCWR of 8200lbs. Fuel economy is excellent: we get an efficient 10L/100kms (24mpg) while not towing. Towing takes us up to about 17L/100lkms (14mpg) which is impressive for any type of RV set up. I named the trailer Nellie and the van Eddie after my great-grandparents on my mother’s side. :o)
